25 Epilepsy Run/Walk (State
Museum/Riverfront Park)
5K Riverfest Epilepsy Run/Walk will be held at the Riverfront Park, at Huger and Laurel Streets on Saturday, April 25 at 8:00 am. It is going to be an exciting day with fun, friends and live music. Through the Riverfest Run/Walk, the Epilepsy Foundation hopes to raise enough money to send children to their valuable summer camp, while promoting awareness about epilepsy.
If you wish to assist and have not already signed up please contact Doc AI4JN, at MBCerkez@BellSouth.net or speak with him at the next Columbia club meeting.
For your information, Paul K4IRT, will be net control for this event. He wishes to meet with us at Lizards Thicket on Elmwood for breakfast and instructions before the run. We'll be meeting at 6:30 to get a good meal and coffee into us before we set out. We'll have a talk-in freq. of 147.330 just in case. Please, those of you who will be using handhelds, put your batteries on charge. I don't anticapate a great deal of air traffic but you never know.
25 NAMI (National Association for Mental Illness) walk
We'll be starting at 7:15 AM and could use one or two more hams.
It's taking place on the West Columbia/Cayce River Walk, starting at the ampitheater off the Gervais Street Bridge and going to the train trestle for a turn-around.
Thanks...

25 Sparkleberry Fair -
Clemson Sandhills location on Clemson Rd.
Please make sure to mark your calendars for April 25th. I'll be sending specific e-mails later to all CARC members soliciting volunteers to work shifts. Additional information will also be available at the next club meeting as we should have our location assignment at that time. I should be able to provide maps and fair information at that time.
Some of the things that you can look forward to this year when you're NOT working our booth:
- 1) Model train exhibit (new this year)
- 2) Native American exhibit (expanded this year and will include descendent of Tonto)
- 3) Car exhibit (new this year and sponsored by MOPAR club)
The antique tractors will be returning and the usual gardening/arborist materials will be there. Should be a banner crowd this year if we don't get stormed on again.
If you HAVEN'T signed up to help with this event.... I can still use the help. Last year, we had a record number of folks come to help set up, but with 2 walks taking place the same morning, we're stretched.
Now for some details...
1) We need to be at Clemson Ext. Saturday morning at 7:00 AM for set-up. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding Ronnie's porcupine truck.
2) Set-up must be completed by 8:30 am
3) We have only been given 3 parking stickers this year and I think they're going to be stickier about vendor parking so don't be surprised if you're asked to move your car OR if you have to pay $2 to park (those coming in the afternoon will definitely have to pay..... sorry!!!!)
4) We need several more 6 ft tables to put radios on
5) I would like Ronnie to coordinate the radios (Modern and Antique) coming to Sparkleberry. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment and he can take that much off of me.
6) Bring your own chairs, sun screen, money for food, a cooler of drinks, and snacks if you like.
7) You might want to being a HT if you have one so that we can stay in contact and keep the kids talking if we have hams wandering around the area.

16 Roger's Workshop
For the May session of Roger's Workshop we will build 2 meter, twin-lead, roll-up, J-pole antennas. Every ham should have one of these. This antenna is designed mainly for use with an HT but can be used with a mobile unit if mounted in the clear. It is small and when rolled up will fit nicely in a suitcase or briefcase. I never go on vacation without one.
All parts, including coax and connectors (BNC, SMA, or PL-259), will be furnished at a cost of $5.00 per antenna and for no extra charge each participant will receive a deluxe, waterproof carrying case and a universal installation mounting bracket.
All the necessary tools will be available but if you have a favorite X-acto knife/razor-blade tool bring it with you (band-aids will be supplied). Also if you have a good soldering iron you can bring it as I have only one.
Door prizes will also be given away, compliments of Kris Collins, KG4ETG.
