Skywarn is a volunteer organization of trained spotters who helps the National Weather Service observe and report severe weather

When seconds count!

Serving Aiken ,Bamburg, Barnwell, Burke, Calhoun, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Columbia, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, Lexington, Lincoln, McCormick, McDuffee, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richmond, Richland, Saluda and Sumter Counties of South Carolina and Eastern Georgia.


Volunteer Amateur Radio Operators specially trained in Skywarn Observation assist the National Weather Service to observe and report Severe Weather. During severe weather the SC Midlands Region Skywarn Network is activated at the request of Weather Service Officials. The Skywarn Network is activated on the following frequencies:

Central Savannah River Area: 145.490mHz repeater located near Augusta, Georgia

Central Midlands: 147.210 mHz repeater located on Little Mountain near Newberry, SC. If the repeater is down an alternate frequency of 147.330 mHz is used.

North Midlands: 146.925mHz repeater near Bishopville, SC

Network control is handled at the National Weather Service Office at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. The Columbia Weather Service Station call is WX4CAE
