ARRL VEC Announces Exam Fee Increase $15.00 2009

On November 6, The ARRL VEC announced that as of January 1, 2009, the fee to take an ARRL Volunteer Examiner ( VE )-administered Amateur Radio license exam will increase by $1, from $14 to $15. This is the first time since in four years that the examination fee has been adjusted.

Every examinee at each ARRL coordinated examination session is charged the same fee in accordance with the annually-established fee schedule. Any person sitting for an exam, or having a new license or upgrade processed at a test session, must pay the exam fee applicable for the calendar year. The ARRL VE C's exam fee for calendar year 2009 is $15. Each time a candidate pays one exam fee, they are entitled to take tests for Elements 2, 3 and 4 as needed, up to all three elements under the single exam fee. Each time an examinee retakes an exam element (assuming the VE Team has different exam design available), another exam fee is charged.

Walk-Ins Welcome, Pre-Registration Not Required

Effective 6/25/08, the ARRL Midlands VE Team will have two team liaisons with the ARRL. Kirk Morrison (KA4PXK) and Harlan Sherriff (NC3C). Kirk’s team will provide test sessions in Camden every ODD month, and Harlan’s team will continue Columbia area sessions every EVEN month.

We are hoping to build a pool of VE’s in each area willing to help keep the testing alive and well. The more VE’s we have, the less often they would need to help at a session. The desire is to be able to “schedule” VE’s well in advance of the test session. We certainly don’t want to have to cancel a session due to not having enough VE’s.

If you are not currently accredited with the ARRL as a VE, please consider it? It’s free and easy to become a VE, and a great way to “give back” to the hobby.

If you are currently accredited, but haven’t been testing, please consider providing your name to either Kirk or Harlan (depending on which area sessions you would be attending) and let us know how often you would be willing to attend sessions.

If you are currently helping out at test sessions, THANKS, and please contact Kirk or Harlan to let us know which team you will be helping.

We need three Amateur Extra Class VE’s as a minimum for every session, and can always use General Class VE’s.
